Yes, In My Backyard!

The Beer Sheva Garden City scheme of the 1950s offered a concept of neighboring units that were separated by green strips.
The Concept of the modernist city, which was used in Beer Sheva, abandoned the historical approach that linked local culture, water and climate.
This created ongoing problems that the city still facing today, such as, disconnection between the neighborhoods, unproportional street section, Unactive streets, General lack of trees and shading within the open, public, and private areas. There are many neglected and misused spaces.
The green city concept, that took part in many parts of the city, Created a fractured urban texture, with many deserted areas and many climatic problems. It can be stated that the modernist view has abandoned the link between urban planning and natural space.
“If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change.”
Giuseppe Tomasi, The Leopard
This Project is aiming to re-evaluate the current model of housing and urban texture within the city and to create a new approach to it. Although this proposal is a masterplan that can be duplicated throughout the city, The project focused on a specific site that’s being used as an exemplary model for the concept.

In this project, we re-examined the local fabric of life and the results of the modernist block today. We strive to create a combination of “live-create-share” under one block and integrate creation, work and active community life. we aim on bringing in a new wave of artists, cultural professionals and supporting local craftsmen with an attempt to integrate circular economy model to the daily lifestyle. First and foremost, the project meant for the local community and wants to preserve their existing life, but at the same time allow it to develop and attract people from different backgrounds, encourage them to stay and develop their own family and future.
Given that building waste is one of the most polluting factors (30% of greenhouse gas emissions are created by the construction industry),
we aim to preserve existing buildings and overhaul them with additions of different units, whether widening the front or creating new ones on the High floors, while maintaining construction Easy to be build and economically, physically and environmentally efficient. The new urban continuum, which will incorporate industry, commerce, and culture into daily life, will create an environment that encourages research, education and experience, new jobs, close knitted and active community life.
